Dean Edward Padgett

January 1, 1926 – September 23, 2017

Dean Edward Padgett, 91, of Fuquay-Varina, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Fuquay-Varina at noon. The family will receive friends at 11:00 am prior to the service.

A Naval Veteran of World War II, Dean served on the destroyer USS Cummings. After returning home, he played professional baseball with the Chicago Cubs organization. He retired from the NC State Department of Agriculture.

He was preceded in death by his parents Marion and Ada Padgett of Marion, NC, brother Delos A. Padgett of Marion (killed in France in WWII), and his son Dean Arnold Padgett of Orlando.

He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Catherine Hall Padgett; children, Joe (Margaret) of Marion, NC, Steve (Carolyn) of Raleigh, Patti (Robb) of Gainesville, GA; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and beloved dog Peaches.
