Rest in Peace

Donald Leu

NOVEMBER 23, 1933 – FEBRUARY 5, 2026

Donald Jay Leu, husband, father, grandfather and friend, left this earthly home for his forever home on 5 February 2026. He lived for 92 years. Don had been a resident of the Durham VA Medical Center for the recent weeks of his life.

Don was born on 23 November 1933, Thanksgiving Day. He was proud of this fact.

Don was a proud US Army Veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He earned several medals during his 19 years of service including 2 Purple hearts - one in each conflict. After his service in the military, he continued to serve by becoming a police officer in both the towns of Kohler and Sheboygan, Wisconsin. While serving as police officer he was wounded in the line of duty and forced to retire from his service.

Don relocated from Wisconsin to North Carolina in 2000 after the passing of his first wife, Nancy. He became an active member of VFW Post 10225 in Garner, including serving as the Post Commander. It was at this Post he met his wife Sandra, and they spent 24 wonderful years together. He transferred as a Life Member to VFW Post 7383 in Cary, where he participated in as many events to support the Post as he could.

Don is survived by his wife Sandra, son Jo, daughter Jeannie, stepson Josh Johnson (wife Kristi). His grandchildren: Gage Johnson, Alivia Johnson, Daniel Bauman, Andrea Ingalls; and great-grandchildren: Andrew Bauman, Jaidyn Ingalls, and Olivia Ingalls. As well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Anita Leu, his brother Al, and his son Jay.

Don loved his family, loved his Country, and loved being able to serve it.

The loss of this amazing man has left a void in the hearts of everyone who had the honor of knowing him.

A celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, 14 March at 3:00 PM at Cary VFW Post 7383, 522 Reedy Creek Road, Cary, NC 27513.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peak Lab Rescue, P.O. Box 2184, Apex, NC 27502 peaklabrescue.com.
